Who Should the USA Start VS. T&T

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 7:10 am

It’s your call, you get to be Bob Bradley for a day, what would you do?  Who would you start?  What lineup would be most effective in getting the 3 points, and in the process hopefully more than one goal.

Here’s the Roster you can choose from:

GOALKEEPERS (2): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa: 2/2 SO), Tim Howard (Everton FC: 5/4 SO)
DEFENDERS (8): Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes: 15/2), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland: 2/0), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96: 16/0), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew: 13/1), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege: 10/0), Michael Orozco (San Luis: 0/0), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock: 4/0), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC: 0/0)
MIDFIELDERS (6): DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers: 18/4), Michael Bradley (Borussia Moenchengladbach: 4/1), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo: 1/0), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers: 3/0), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA: 2/0), Eddie Lewis (Los Angeles Galaxy: 21/3)
FORWARDS (4): Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo: 9/4), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy: 23/8), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC: 10/3), Eddie Johnson (Cardiff City: 8/8)

Here’s my lineup:

——-Ching——-Donovan———-

Beasley——–Dempsey——–Kljestan

—————Bradley—————

Pearce–Bocanegera–Onyewu–Cherundolo

————-Howard—————-

You might be able to tell I really want to see Kljestan get some playing time.

What is your lineup?  Any thoughts on the game go below.

  1. Nesta says:

I would like to see a lineup of
    Altidore
    Donovan Adu
    Beasley Bradley Dempsey
    Pearce Onyewu Bocanegra Wynne
    Howard

knowing Bradley, we will probably see Ching up top, and Eddie Lewis in the midfield. I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see EJ in this game. But honestly call in Adu, Altidore, Holden, Rogers, Zizzo, Szetela, ARGUEZ, and even Ryan Guy. And to top it off, make every effort to get Subotic to play for us. The guy is pure class who will be one of the best defenders in the world.

  2. Nesta says:

oh yeah, and also watch out for Charles Renken in future years.

  3. Jonesta says:

Seeing as none of those players got calls and I’m not gonna argue with Bradley on not calling them…Altidore is shining at Villarreal right now and might get to see first team action soon which only makes him better for us in the future. Subotic has asked to not be called into any camps by anyone and for us to attempt to get him might only sway him to play for the other countries he is able to (why he would play for countries that dont get to compete in the World Cup on a regular basis is beyond me but whatever…and if he finds a loop hole to play for Germany it’s not likely he will be a fixture for them like he would be here) so lets leave him be. With the players he has called in (and they are merely for qualification…not the WC itself so again I wont argue with Bradley’s decisions) I would like to see this line-up

    Donovan – Dempsey
    Beasley – Kljestan
    Bradley – Edu
    Pearce – Boca – Gooch – Wynne
    Guzan

I would like to see Guzan get some more experience for the team…I don’t think he would jeopardize the game being in so lets see him get some reps…Wynne needs to get a shot to play he is a beast and I want to see as many of our younger guys on the pitch as possible. I will say there is one player I wish Bradley would call in and that is Michael Parkhurst…he is in MLS so taking him out of there to play the minnows of CONCACAF doesn’t hurt his quality of play like it does some of our players overseas…plus he is established so he isn’t hurt getting playing time with his club by being away and also I think he needs to get time with the Nat’l team he is a great defender and uses his brain to his advantage, he needs to learn to be more vocal and so getting in with the team might help him in leadership aspects.

  4. Nesta says:

parkhurst is way too slow and small to play. He was getting torched by Nigeria in the olympics

  5. Chuck says:

    Here’s who we’ll see (unfortunately)

    ———-Howard———-
    Dolo—Boca–Gooch—-Pearce
    ——Edu–Bradley———
    Dempsey—Donovan—-Beasley
    ———Ching————

  6. Charley says:

i like jonesta’s lineup. and parkhurst did show some promise in the olympics, but i don’t know if he can compete for the USMNT. and i agree with chuck though, we will see that, with maybe EJ in for Ching, just for the sake of change. I wouldn’t mind seeing donovan in as a striker and bring kljestan in as well. really i want anything but what we have seen.

  7. Jonesta says:

Parkhurst is not too slow and small…sorry he got beat once when he shouldn’t have and then he looked out of it in the end after having played the whole game a man down having to do more work than any player should have had to. He needs more international experience…he is a lot smarter than Boca whose mistakes constantly allow goals…and Chuck you are probably right but this is who you would like to see not who we will unfortunately see…(Brian Ching needs to retire I’m tired of seeing him look pathetic)

  8. Charley says:

everyone needs to check this out. it is really really cool. You have probably already seen it, but it really shows you how the players did against cuba. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_9666564.html

  9. Max Zeger says:

    That’s a great find Charley.

I’m loving the discussion guys, but Bob Bradley is going to throw out the same old lineup tonight, I could see Kljestan getting a surprise start, but beyond that, you will see the standard lineup. Contrary to Jonesta, I sort of like how Boca has played recently. His move to France suits him well, and he and Gooch both look really stable and solid. In my opinion, I’d like to see Jonathan Bornstein and Marvell Wynne get some time on the wings. Heath Pearce is nothing but dissapointing, and so are both Cherundolo and Hejduk. As for the midfield, I think it’s pretty strong and what I’d like to see is Beasley play forward. He’s done it for Rangers, why not for the nats. We stick him and Ching up there, put Dempsey on the right and Donovan on the left, those two can be switched, what do you think of that one guys?

  10. Max Zeger says:

edit, we won’t be seeing either Wynne or Orozco tonight, coaches decision.

  11. Jonesta says:

I didn’t say Boca hadn’t played well recently but there have been many instances where he and gooch are not on the same page and end up in the same area usually because Boca took a step when he didn’t need to…not to mention we need to be grooming some center backs for when he is gone beacuse that isn’t that far off…where did you hear Wynne and Orozco wouldn’t be playing? Is this fact or opinion?

  12. Max Zeger says:

no, they’re are not playing tonight for sure, not going to be dressing.

  13. Ryan says:

I really like your lineup Max, but if I’m not mistaken, Sacha plays as a central role with Chivas, yes?
I like Dempsey wide, so I’d switch the two of them.

  14. Nesta says:

are Orozco and Wynne hurt? I have a feeling we will see EJ start tonight

  15. Max Zeger says:

no, orozco and wynne just aren’t going to play. The are capable of playing, but it’s a coach’s decision, the won’t be seeing any action.

  16. Jonesta says:

I wish we knew the reason behind wynne and orozco other than orozco sucks…but wynne is a beast he needs to play
