The Cuauhtemoc Blanco Bust-Up Finally Resolved

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 6:41 pm

After waiting quite a while to find out Blanco’s punishment for getting red carded and then head-butting a DC United employee after he left the field, we now know is punishment.  The USSF brought down their ruling today, and it’s no small suspension or fine.  Blanco has been banned for two years and a minimum of six games from the US Open Cup.  This means that Blanco will most likely never play in the US Open Cup again because he is near the end of his career at 35 years of age.  The panel decided this was the appropriate punishment after hearing testimonies from game officials, DC United employees, and Blanco himself.DC’s Kevin Payne had this to say about the ruling.

“US Soccer has a well-established hearing process to consider these types of situations,”

“We’re satisfied the hearing panel did their job and that the punishment is consistent with past, similar incidents.”

Blanco will not be allowed to play in the US Open Cup’s of 2009 and 2010.  MLS can take this under consideration and possibly tag on a MLS suspension as he is a league employee, but MLS has not said whether or not they plan on taking action just yet.

Should MLS take some action?  Was this an appropriate punishment?  Your thoughts below.

I can’t stand Blanco but with a two year ban from a tourney I guess that is enough and dont see why he should miss further games

the most interesting thing is whether or not MLS decides to take action. If so, that could affect chicago’s playoff push.

That is what I mean I dont think MLS should give him a further ban…and I don’t like the guy so if I dont think he should be banned more I dont know why he would be

the only thing MLS can get him on is whether or not he has made the league look bad because he is an employee of the league. If they think that he has negatively harmed the league, they can take action. However, I don’t think they will in this case.
