Report: Real Madrid after Oguchi Onyewu

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 11:08 am

I was so pleased yesterday that Oguchi was ready to move to Ajax, so this news wasn’t exactly what i was hoping for.  While Real Madrid will be a Champions League contender, and a La Liga title contender as well, this rumor should do nothing but frighten you.  Read on…

If Gooch were to Join Real Madrid, it would not be as a starter, and if we’ve seen anything for our National Team, players must be playing regularly.  Real is chasing after Alvaro Arbeloa, and Gooch would be seen as cover to him.  In the event of his injury, Raul Albiol would slide outside, and Gooch would fill the middle.

It would be nice to see Gooch playing for Los Galacticos, but not at the expense of playing time.  Gooch needs to be promised playing time, and if they can’t make that promise, he should move on and seal his move to Ajax.  As soon as I hear word, i’ll let you know.  I’m also going to make some calls to his agent, but I’ve seen in the past that he doesn’t like the media all that much.  We’ll see…

How do you feel about this potential move?  Excited to possibly hear Gooch’s name alongside Ronaldo, Kaka, and Casillas every day.  Your thoughts below.

It’s nice that he gets mentioned but since we are not yet a powerhouse of international soccer I would much rather see him at a smaller club getting regular pt so at least he can go the full 90 for us. If he were going to start every day this would be amazing though and imagine what it would do for the image of American players to have one at a truly giant club.

If he were to play, I’d love this move, but he won’t so I’m against it. I can’t wait for the day an American field player plays for a top side, but this is not the situation he needs.

agreed with both of you. nice to be mentioned, but thanks but no thanks. Ajax looks like a much better deal than this.

Yeah, I think his signing could be a marketing ploy as well. Real Madrid is trying to break into the American market which Barcelona has traditionally dominated, so this move might be more to make money, and less to actually improve the team. I like either ajax or genoa.
