Onyewu to Koln
Oguchi Onyewu, US central defender is a transfer target for Koln. Koln, a Bundesliga 1 outfit is looking for a big strong central defender and Onyewu looks to be their primary target. Coach Christoph Daum has said that he is facing competition from a team in England, rumored to be Fulham. It is also reported that Standard Liege wants over 4 million dollars for Onyewu.
A move to Koln would be a welcome one for Onyewu, but I’m not too convinced. They just came up from Bundesliga 2 and are certain to be involved in a relegation battle. Onyewu needs to move to a club that doesn’t have to scrap for relegation. A move to Fulham would be better as he would play for a team that has invested heavily this offseason. An optimal move would be to a mid-table French outfit because he not only speaks French but he previously had played there
What do you think of Onyewu’s potential transfer? Where should he go? Leave your thoughts below.

I didn’t see Onyewu when he played in Belgium but supposedly, he had quite a reputation for being a strong and tough defender. But the few times I saw him play for Newcastle, he seemed (to me) woefully inadequate – his positioning was absolutely dreadful. It was too bad because I expected so much from him. Sorry, but I’m not convinced that he could cut the mustard even at Fulham but I’ll be the first to admit that my opinion is only based on the few games I saw him in for Newcastle, so it may not be a fair assessment. Not only that, but he wasn’t given the chance to show that he could improve at Newcastle as he was let go when Allardyce came in.

Onyewu has all the abilities to be a great player but his decision making and positioning is poor. I want him to go to fulham also because I know Roy Hodgson will sort him out and fix his problems there. Apparently in Belgium he was regarded very highly so we’ll see what happens. Physically, he can dominate the game but he needs to play much smarter to really reach his potential.
