Maurice Edu Close to Joining Glasgow Rangers
Maurice Edu is a player with vast potential, and many European scouts have seen it and want it. There have been rumors since last year that Aston Villa was impressed with the young American, but it isn’t Aston Villa who have gotten serious with Edu this time.
Steven Goff is reporting that Glasgow Rangers, one of the most storied clubs in all of soccer is nearing an agreement that would send Edu to Scotland. The transfer fee would be around the $5 million mark, which is a pretty large sum.
Edu showed well at the Olympics and in his one-and-a-half years in MLS, he’s been one of the most consistent and all around best players. It’s not clear whether or not Edu would be able to start, but he certainly would be able to fight for some playing time on day one.
I think this would be a fantastic move for Edu. He would play at one of the most historic clubs in Europe and experience just how big soccer is over in Europe. Not to mention, he would join fellow American Damarcus Beasley who has done well for Rangers this past year.
What do you think of the move? Would it be beneficial for Edu? Is the price tag a fair one? Any thoughts go below.

Since Rangers are knocked out of European competition I’m surprised that they’re buyers right now. That being said they may be looking to unload some their more expensive talent which could open up a potential spot in the lineup for Edu. Mo has shown great versatility which will be huge in being sucessful in Europe.

I agree, Walter Smith is spending the money that he got when he sold Carlos Cuellar, Smith said he would spend every penny of it because of their exit from European competition. He thinks they need to strengthen so that’s where the money is coming from. I love the move, Rangers is a great club and Edu is a person who could thrive there

However, they did just sign Pedro Mendes from Pompey.
