Hello Philly: Here’s Your New Stadium
Most of the talk about expansion here on YS is about the two new teams coming in 2011, and who they might be. Meanwhile, Philadelphia is chugging along and they look like they will be ready to go come 2010. The new designs for a Soccer-Specific-Stadium on the Chester waterfront have come in today.
The 18,500 seat stadium will feature an 11,000 square foot club, 2,000 reserved seats for members of the group “Sons of Ben”, and the ability to host not only quality soccer, but concerts and much more. The designers, Rossetti Architects, also released pictures of the stadium.
It’s no Red Bull Park, but it looks nice and should be a great place to visit.
Here is the stadium:

What do you think of the new stadium? Will you try to make a visit? Where will it rank among MLS stadiums? Your thoughts below.

as someone said on the bigsoccer.com board:
why is that water blue? it should be brown.

There isn’t any water in the world that is that shade of blue. Unless the city of Philadelphia is planning on dyeing the river, it will be murky brown as you said. Good point ryan.

I hope theres not some stage area that looks ridiculous as there is in Columbus and chicago… Good stuff though. Stadiums are the steps to profitability, which is in turn the steps to better youth development and better transfer players coming in and out of MLS… I will not visit though. as a Red Bull fan I’m too afraid of getting pelted with batteries, and then having the crowd cheer as I get carried away to the emergency room. Philadelphia’s a little too classy for me, I think NY Jets fans are all from Philadelphia

Easy with the Philly bashing. More passionate fans is exactly what the league needs. I think the Sons of Ben have already scooped up about 3,000 season tickets
