Gruffgoat’s Winners and Losers of the Week

Yanks Soccer fans, the big event of the week in US soccer had to be the MLS All Star game. I’ve always been a critic of the MLS all star game – more the format really than the match itself. In fact, if America insists on a All Star game, I suggest we look to Australia’s State of Origin rugby league match up and emulate their format for our match. At any rate, this week’s match proved quite entertaining, so with that, the winners and losers of the week.

Winners: MLS All-Stars and West Ham United, for putting on a good, high scoring show in one of the hottest soccer cities in North America (north of the Rio Grande that is), Toronto.

Losers: As bad as the ESPN coverage of the All Star match was (sorry guys, you did great during the Euro’s but slipped back in to old habits for this one), the losers of the week are the 120 or so Columbus Crew and West Ham United fans who decided to brawl at half time during their “friendly” – I love that term for a match – on the 20th. Let’s not adopt one of the ugliest components of the sport shall we fellas?
