Eddie Lewis to LA, Cory Gibbs to Colorado

The Galaxy front office has gone crazy.  They held the top spot in the allocation order, and the ability to sign Cory Gibbs, the defender they so desperately need, and what do they do.  They pass on Gibbs and sign a left midfielder.  Insanity right!

Now that Alexi Lalas was gone, we expected to have some sensible front office decisions, but apparently not.  The Galaxy passed on Gibbs, and are close to signing Eddie Lewis.

Under normal circumstances, I would say this would be a good move, but when your defense has huge holes in it, you cannot afford to pass on defenders.  Lewis is a safer bet to perform on a high level since Gibbs has had two injury plagued seasons where he hasn’t played at all, but you can’t let a defender with international experience go when your defense needs an overhaul.

Enough with LA’s lunacy, Cory Gibbs still has to find a home.  It looks as if he will end up in Colorado.  Colorado owns the next spot in the allocation order and claimed him, so he will now play for the Rapids.  It’s a good move for the Rapids considering their defense isn’t much better than the Galaxy’s.  Gibbs would have preffered to play for New England who owns the next spot in the allocation order, but he’ll have to play for a Colorado team in turmoil instead.

What do you think of LA’s insanity?  Is Lewis a better buy than Gibbs?  Will Gibbs fit in Colorado?  Your thoughts below.

Stupid. Lewis is a good player but we don’t need more offense. Passing on Gibbs was moronic.

I agree, even if lewis is a better player overall and less risky, the midfield is good, you don’t need to go and get another quality midfielder. What you need is defenders and gibbs is one of the best LA could have gotten at this point.

I have lost all faith in LA…period

don’t expect to get any faith back this year. They look like they’re going to miss the playoffs. The only thing i can think of that they might be doing is trying to make the offense so good that it overmatches how bad the defense is. LA could use Abel Xavier back right now.

  5. Jonesta says:

…that might be stretching it…he was terrible but Gibbs makes so much more sense than Lewis it’s not even funny.

  6. Ryan says:

I just don’t understand. Is the Galaxy trying to be a hilarious joke? Because, that’s what it’s turning into.

la has needed a left midfielder 4 a while now and considering that there deffense sucks maybe they want to run and gun like the phenox suns

  8. Max Zeger says:

that’s the only logical possibility, but it doesn’t work. If they want to make a run for the title, the defense needs to be able to limit great offenses like New England, Chicago, DC, and Houston. Right now, they can’t do that and those teams have good defenses too. The LA offense is good, but it can be stopped by the teams i just mentioned. They need defensive help now!

Having Lewis on the Left will help the waste of space, Vanney, but I’d much rather replace Vanney. The thing with Xavier is he was one of the only guys on the team that could win balls in the air. Gordon can too but after that we lose every ball in the air. We needed Gibbs, injury prone or not.
