Dutch Coach Insults US Olympic Team

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 3:13 pm

Dutch Coach Foppe De Haan has insulted the US Olympic team today.  He said

“Nigeria is confident on the ball, They have two very good strikers. The Americans are more of a team on the same level. They don’t have anybody extremely good.”

“They’re totally different than Nigeria, in my opinion.”

The remark pretty much says that there are no players in-particular that the Dutch have to worry about.  What he forgot about was how dynamic players like Jozy Altidore, Freddy Adu, Stuart Holden, and Robbie Rogers can change a game.

I hope this gives our boys some extra incentive to beat the Dutch.

What do you think of the comments?  Are they true?  Do we really not have any extremely good players?  Your thoughts below.

Are his comments really that far fetched? Do we have a player that can take over a game and put the team onj his shoulders? I’m not so sure that we do. Regardless, if any of our players need more pumping up for this game then they have no business being on the team in the first place.

i’d say Jozy and freddy can take a game over. If the Dutch don’t double freddy, then I think he can really hurt them. I also think that Jozy can hurt the Dutch D. He’s got 2 inches over the tallest dutch defender, and even 5 on some. I take this as an indication that he’s not taking some of our better players seriously and I hope they take it upon themselves to prove him wrong. Freddy and Jozy need strong performaces and if they’re going to underestimate them, that’s good for us.

I do agree that the players shouldn’t need pumping up, but any little extra incentive helps.

I think the Dutch have already chalked this up as Win for them so I think we should try and birng the game to them and sit back and hope to counter.

  4. Chuck says:

    sorry..and NOT sit back

Good, please we need more comments like this. This is same attitude that our boys in the 2002 World Cup played against and did quiet well. Nothing like…other countries hating on our soccer,er, uhm, football skills..

  6. Max Zeger says:

yeah the more they overestimate us, the better. Let them find out what we’re capable of.

i think that the majority of our players are unproven, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come out and shine against the dutch. The dutch have players like Babel who produce day in and day out, but that doesn’t mean that someone like Adu, Altidore, or McBride (who IS a proven and effective striker) can’t shine on sunday. Should be a very good game and i can’t wait to get up super early and watch it.

even though we pulled off a shaky win against japan, i’m confident that we’re going to grow in the game against the dutch. US teams are always thought of as not really real contenders, but i feel like everybody is underestimating us and the players know it. I hope we knick an early goal against the dutch and i hope its freddy or jozy. can’t wait until early sunday

  9. Alessandro says:

2-1 holland is my prediction but i hope usa can grab a draw. team USA doesnt have a player as good as messi, ronaldinho, giovinco, babel or so forth but are a good team as a whole.

  10. Michael Harshbarger says:

Of course we do not have a messi or ronaldinho. Soccer is the fourth or fifth choice for top athletes in this country. But I really like the team we have in Beijing and it would be fantastic to upset the arrogant Dutch on Sunday. We may not have a babel but we have a lot of guys with fire and heart, as witnessed in Michael Bradley against Uruguay during the U-20 world cup. We need that attitude to pull off some upsets. C’mon USA…

Er, hey Foppe? I suggest you call up Brazil’s U-20′s and ask them if Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore are on the same level as everyone else. I have the feeling that you will be surprised by their response.
