DC Downed by Houston, It only took 5 hours!
Imagine waiting at a stadium through a three hour delay to see the half hour of a soccer game. Would you do it? It wouldn’t be for me, but that was the reality last night at RFK stadium. Even the most faithful fans such as the Barra Brava and the Screaming Eagles deserted after a while. Now imagine you’ve been waiting to see the same game for seven weeks. It sounds like a game the gods just didn’t want to see played right? Some game stats courtesy of Steven Goff:
*Announced attendance: 14,660.
*Actual attendance: Maybe 9,000.
*Attendance at final whistle: 250?
*Time of match: 4 hours 44 minutes.
*Time of delay: 2 hours 54 minutes.
*Number of light failures: 2.
Anyway, the game was finally finished at the ungodly hour of 12:30 local time and Houston left DC having won two out of two. DC looks like they’re back into a slump (they’ve lost their last four games, all at home). The absences of Gonzalo Peralta and Marcelo Gallardo seem to be taking their toll. Peralta will be back for August 10, and Gallardo should be ready soon after.
Houston on the other hand is hitting their stride and looks set to make a charge up the Western Conference standings. With the addition of Nate Jaqua as well, this could be a very dangerous team for Superliga, Champions League, and MLS Playoffs.
Here are the game highlights:
What do you think of DC’s recent slide? Is Houston a serious contender now? Any thoughts on the weather and postponements in DC? All comments go below.

I don’t really understand your question of is Houston a contender NOW…Houston is always a contender if anyone counted them out earlier in the season they clearly dont know MLS

They certainly always are a contender, especially in the western conference but what I meant was are they ready to move up the standings and stake their claim for the western conference. Especially with Nate Jaqua now. They advanced impressively in Superliga then they dispatched DC again. I’m just commenting on the fact that they are hitting a nice run of form.
