Cardiff City Aggressively Courting Kenny Cooper

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 6:45 pm

Is Bob Bradley the only man who has no interest in Kenny Cooper.  We know about Rosenborg’s offer’s and now YS has learned that Cardiff City is interested in Cooper.  The Bluebirds have launched a bid similar to Rosenborg’s and Cooper might prefer a move to England over Norway.  Reports in the Welsh press have the bid at approximately $4 million and they also say that MLS has accepted the bid, they just have to agree to terms with Cooper.  City’s needs however are urgent, and they want Cooper in their camp now which has made the situation more complicated and hectic.   Continue reading “Cardiff City Aggressively Courting Kenny Cooper”

Have Your Voice Heard: Where should MLS Expand?

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 12:34 pm

After Don Garber announced the league would be expanding by two more teams in 2011, the discussion raged over which cities would get to have one of the two expansion teams. So far, we are no closer to knowing that answer, but we all have our own opinions. My goal is to gage the mood of the public on this issue so, I present to you a poll. After the jump, you can see what I mean. Continue reading “Have Your Voice Heard: Where should MLS Expand?”

Gruffgoat’s Winners and Losers of the Week

Tag: Uncategorizedgruffgoat @ 6:50 am

Yanks Soccer fans, the big event of the week in US soccer had to be the MLS All Star game. I’ve always been a critic of the MLS all star game – more the format really than the match itself. In fact, if America insists on a All Star game, I suggest we look to Australia’s State of Origin rugby league match up and emulate their format for our match. At any rate, this week’s match proved quite entertaining, so with that, the winners and losers of the week. Continue reading “Gruffgoat’s Winners and Losers of the Week”

Should MLS Expand to Canada, or Focus on America?

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 3:43 pm

With Don Garber and MLS now ready to expand by two more teams for the 2011 season, the debate is on.  Many Americans would favor expansion right here in America, but there is also a compelling case for expansion into Canada.  MLS just yesterday held a successful All Star game in Toronto, and the support is unbelievable there.  I like the idea of expanding in American cities because it promotes the sport in America, but it’s hard to deny that there is enormous potential in Canada.  I present the following video as evidence of the great support. Brian Mcbride will Play for Chicago Next Year, MLS Expands by 2 More Teams [UPDATED]

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 8:30 pm

Just when all the turmoil surrounding Brian Mcbride had settled down, commissioner Don Garber told Rob Stone of ESPN that a solution regarding Mcbride had been reached.  Chicago paid a steep price in the end, but if Mcbride can push them to the MLS Cup, it will be all worth it.

Sources are telling me that the deal has Chad Barrett going to Toronto, as well as a first round draft pick and allocation money.  It was not a cheap acquisition to begin with, but Chicago avoided giving up Chris Rolfe and Justin Mapp so they are satisfied.  Toronto finally gave in because of their need for a forward.  They know that Barrett is prone to misses, but they also know he can put it in the back of the net, unlike most of their current forwards.   Continue reading “Brian Mcbride will Play for Chicago Next Year, MLS Expands by 2 More Teams [UPDATED]“

Dax McCarty replaces Nathan Sturgis on Olympic Roster

Dax McCarty who was a key member of the US’s qualification for the Olympics will replace the injured Nathan Sturgis on the US Olympic team.  McCarty is a central midfielder and it is an interesting move to add him to the squad.  Without Sturgis, the US only has four defenders on the roster, five if you count Maurice Edu who is primarily a midfielder.  Sturgis pulled out of the team due to a right hamstring injury. As often as I can, I turn the tube on at eleven to see John Stewart.  So when I turned the TV on recently, not only did I get John Stewart, I also got Will Ferrell in a Chelsea jersey.  If you don’t believe me, check out the video after the jump.  Even if you don’t care enough to see him in the jersey, the conversation they have is just as good.
