If you guys remember, Bryan was drafted by DC United and never played a lick. So, last winter, he went on trial with Hertha Berlin and was rated quite highly by Hertha. The Berlin club secured Arguez’s contract for only $300,000 and Arguez was off to Germany. He featured sparingly off the bench for the second half of the season but always impressed. At 19 years of age, this was an impressive feat for anyone, let alone an American who never played for an MLS team. Continue reading “Bryan Arguez Skipping Practice”

Neven Subotic has a tough decision ahead of him. He can choose to play for his birth country, or the country that gave him his international start. Jeff Carlisle, an outstanding journalist wrote an equally outstanding profile of Neven Subotic and I think it is worth a read. After you finish, feel free to discuss it right here.

After waiting quite a while to find out Blanco’s punishment for getting red carded and then head-butting a DC United employee after he left the field, we now know is punishment. The USSF brought down their ruling today, and it’s no small suspension or fine. Blanco has been banned for two years and a minimum of six games from the US Open Cup. This means that Blanco will most likely never play in the US Open Cup again because he is near the end of his career at 35 years of age. The panel decided this was the appropriate punishment after hearing testimonies from game officials, DC United employees, and Blanco himself. It was an early morning kickoff for us following here in the USA, and the US team was able to get a result against a talented Ivory Coast squad. This match was just a tune-up for the Olympics so we can’t take much from it, except for the lineup Nowak chose. Some fans had speculated that the USA would use a 3 man back line but it appears Nowak will go with four in the back. After the jump you can see the full lineup. As Yanks Soccer reported earlier this morning, FC Dallas has decided to keep Kenny Cooper, and now the General Manager of the Hoops has confirmed what I reported this morning.
Said FC Dallas GM Michael Hitchcock:
“We received offers from multiple international clubs for Kenny Cooper during this transfer window, but we elected to decline them all. The international interest is a credit to Kenny, FC Dallas and the ever increasing talent level in Major League Soccer. Winning championships is our priority, and we feel strongly that Kenny will continue to be an important part of our success as we compete for the MLS Cup this year and in the future.” Continue reading “FC Dallas Speaks About Keeping Kenny Cooper”

This is getting quite ridiculous. Yesterday, I got word from a reliable source that all Cooper had to do was sign his new contract and he was off to either Rosenborg or Cardiff City. Now, that same source is reporting that FC Dallas has done a complete u-turn. They’re now prepared to keep Cooper in order to make a serious push for the playoffs, something that I’ve been hoping they would do for a while now. We thought yesterday with the departure of Arturo Alvarez and the imminent departures of both Kenny Cooper and Juan Toja that Dallas was giving up on the current season and focusing on the next one. Schellas Hyndman obviously is an opinionated guy because he’s unloaded three of his most dynamic players. Arturo Alvarez has officially been traded to San Jose according to Dallas’ website. Here’s what they said.
FC Dallas today completed a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, acquiring allocation money and San Jose’s first-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft (originally held by Houston) in exchange for forward-midfielder Arturo Alvarez. San Jose had obtained Houston’s natural first-round pick in the ‘09 draft in exchange for forward Kei Kamara last week.
With Kenny Cooper and Juan Toja also about to jump ship, the question has to be asked; is Schellas Hyndman serious about the playoffs? Continue reading “Arturo Alvarez Leaves for San Jose: Is FC Dallas Clearing House?”

Imagine going from scoring the winning goal in your region’s championship, then landing a huge contract with a premiership team, then having such a bad season, the team releases you. That’s Benny Feilhaber. Derby County have released Feilhaber along with five others as they’re set to make a renewed attempt at the Premier League. I’m ready to give LA the “Worst Front Office Award” for the year. They finally realize they need to spend money on a defender and in his first game, he and his fellow defenders allow four goals. Two Kenny Cooper blasts, a Dominic Oduro tap in, and an Abe Thompson Golazo are enough to convince me that Alexi Lalas should be fired immediately. The only positive thing that has come from his time in charge is the signing of David Beckham, but the on field results have not been impressive. Believe me, there might even be some calls to Abel Xavier tonight. If you don’t believe me, watch the highlights. Continue reading “FC Dallas Run Rampant Over LA, Bye Bye Alexi Lalas”
