Can I add your feed to my aggregator at http://soccerblogs.net/ ?

  2. Michael John says:

I would very much like to become an admin on your forum. I can monitor all of the posts, organize all of the topics into threads (look here: lacrosseforums.com for an example). I will work hard at making the forum a popular place.

  3. Michael John says:

Side note, when you google “Yanks Soccer” it is the second link. There is, however, a typo on google. The second link says “yanks soccer - dedicated to everything american soccer”, but then it says: “Jun 28, 2008 … Yanks Soccer. Dedicated to Everything American Soccer … This is strictly a American Soccer site but I can’t wait for this epic double …”

It should be “this is strictly AN american soccer site…”

Im glad to see that michael john, a dedicated fan of the site, wakes up very early in the morning of the summer so that he can go onto yanksoccer.com. I would like to congradulate michael for his dedication. He should most definitely become an admin.

Adu to Monaco on loan: Although i don’t speak portugese but I can understand that Freddy has been loaned to Monaco offically: http://www.slbenfica.pt/Informacao/Futebol/Noticias/noticiasfutebol_futfreddyadumonaco_210708_38003.asp

Donovan was recently quoted by the English media giant Sky Sports as saying, “The older I get and the more I play, the more I’m yearning for that highest level I can play at.”

“I think the Premiership would be the best place to play.”
I wonder if Landon is talking about moving during this transfer period or in the winter. I’m thinking he may be using the upcoming all star game as final showcase for Prem teams. Some of the teams I could see him land at are Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham.

  7. Chuck says:

Got to see Neven Subotic play for the first time today. He played very well against Bayern. The kid is very impressive. I’d say he’s either just as good if not better than our current crop of CB’s. That being said, I think by delaying an announcement of which country he’d like to play for does not bode well for the US. It would be a very welcomed surprise if he decides to represent the Yanks.

They even flew out to Cali to hold a press conference before he left for China: Freddy Adu: Monaco, The Ideal Choice

After Freddy Adu’s loan was made official Thursday evening in California, the American international forward and his president, Jerome de Bontin, gave their thoughts in a press conference. Extracts…

Freddy, how do you feel after joining Monaco for the upcoming season?

I’m happy and proud! Monaco is a big club and I’m really excited to wear their colors. I realize how lucky I am; a new chapter in my life and career is beginning. I can’t wait to start this adventure!

What finally made up your mind?

Honestly, the club showed me that they really wanted me. What could be better for a player than to know that a president and a coach believe in you and think you can add quality to the team? For me it was ideal, I really wanted this to happen. In that respect, I want to sincerely thank M. de Bontin, Ricardo, and all the people who made this transfer possible.

When you first heard about the possibility of joining ASM, what images did you associate with the club?

For me, first of all it’s the Champions League final in 2004, the team made an exceptional run. Monaco also has a lot of history. As M. de Bontin reminded us, the list of big names who have worn this jersey is impressive. I don’t rate myself in that category but it’s an honor to become, like them, a player for AS Monaco.

What do you know about the French championship?

It’s a high-level competition. It’s known for being rather defensive, with very well organized units. It will be different from what I’ve known thus far but that will help me become a better player. I’m really excited to go up against that.

We know you’re a left-footed offensive player, but what is your favorite position on the pitch?

That’s not really a problem for me. In the middle, on one side or up top, I really don’t have a preference. I haven’t yet spoken with the coach about my future position but right now I’m only thinking about doing my best for the team. I’m going to work hard to show my attributes, whatever my position may be.

Looking back at last season, your first in Europe, playing for Benfica. What do you take away from that experience?

It was a beneficial season that allowed me to discover European soccer. But it wasn’t always easy for several reasons. I often joined the national team for the Olympic qualifiers, there was a coaching change and I was one of the youngest players on the team. I would have liked to have played more, especially in the second part of the season, but I trained hard all year next to great players like Rui Costa. I think I have progressed.

Starting on August 6th, you’ll be playing in the Olympic tournament in Beijing. What are the US’s chances in the competition?

We’re definitely in the hardest group with the Netherlands, Japan and Nigeria. Despite that, the whole team has belief. We’ve got a talented and motivated squad, and I think we can surprise a lot of people.

To finish up, a brief word on your level of French…

I know how to count to at least 10! (laughs) I have some vague memories because I studied French when I was younger, but it wasn’t enough. I’m going to really apply myself as soon as I arrive at the club!

Jerome de Bontin: An Important Event:

“On behalf of AS Monaco and all the supporters of our club, I welcome Freddy to our league. It’s an important event for ASM and for all of French soccer. Freddy Adu is a player who possesses the state of mind, the energy, the intelligence and the talent to realize the performances that we expect from him in these new colors. American soccer is still poorly known in Europe, and I’m convinced that Freddy and AS Monaco can change that. He’s joining today a succession of prestigious players who played at the heard of the Monegasque attack, such as Jan Koller, Christian Vieri, Emmanuel Adebayor, Javier Saviola, Fernando Morientes, Marco Simone, David Trezeguet, Thierry Henry, Sonny Anderson, Jurgen Klinsmann or even Delio Onnis, the leading scorer in club history and in the French first division.”

  9. Chuck says:
  10. Chuck says:

With Freddy Adu already in the fold, AS Monaco of France’s Ligue 1 is moving to add his fellow U.S. men’s and Olympic-team attacker Michael Bradley to the midfield.

    [...]

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, now that Adu has been brought to The Rock, de Bontin is now focused on signing Bradley. Recent reports from Le Figaro and Nice Matin indicated that Monaco has upped its offer for Bradley to about $13 million, while Heerenveen is demanding a price closer to $15.5 million. Previous reports had Middlesbrough of the English Premier League offering about $7.8 million, while Germany’s Bild had Bayer Leverkusen’s of the German Bundesliga offering about $7 million.

  11. Chuck says:

Still no decision from Subotic. Seems like Rongen really screwed the pooch on this one: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=557869&sec=americansabroad&root=americansabroad&cc=5901

  12. Chuck says:

Apparently Brek Shea had two stunning goals yesterday in the USA 4-0 win over Wales. I’m really thinking that he’ll be leaving Northern Ireland with several contract offers. The kid has a combination of size, speed and technical ability (plus a left foot) that have the scouts drooling over him. Hopefully he’ll sign with a club who will provide him with some first team playing time.

  13. Charley says:

Hey, FC Dallas just unofficially signed victor sikora who last played for NAC Breda and the Ortega deal fell through, which turned out to be good. He apparently was a repeat offender for misconduct on his former team. Now no one wants him. here is the link to the website about sikora. http://worldcupway.blogspot.com/2008/08/victor-sikora-joins-fcd.html

its a pretty legit source. That is the official blog of FC Dallas put up by the front office.

  14. Max Zeger says:

thanks charley, i’m looking into it.

  15. Chuck says:

No Jozy in the starting 11:

    —————Guzan——————–
    –Wynne – Edu – Parkhurst – Orozco–

    –Holden – Bradley – Kljestan – Rogers–

    —————Adu———————
    ——————–McBride (capt.)——

  16. Charley says:

I’m happy with the lineup so far. Kljestan isn’t playing well, but so its okay. Japan nearly had one on us on that corner.

  17. Chuck says:

Feilhaber’s future: Apparently Benny has been told by Derby that he can seek out another team on a free transfer. Benny has ruled out a return to Germany (well specificly Hamburg). Benny said he would still consider a move to Israel. Here’s hoping Benny gets some playing time in China and shows well so he can move to a decent league. Here’s an option; with an emphasis on promoting US soccer maybe Monaco would move to pick him up as well.

  18. Max Zeger says:

I was actually thinking about that Chuck, and it makes sense. It’s the highest quality league he’s gonna get to go to, and it’s very american friendly. He could be in the running for a starting spot at Monaco

  19. Chuck says:

And you really have think there’s a good chance he’ll start against Holland. Time for him to step up. Just think how high on this kid everyone was this time last year.

  20. Chuck says:

    Jozy still hurt:

Jozy Altidore isn’t at 100 percent. For the second straight game, the U.S.’s $10 million striker didn’t start, a development that would be a major controversy if Nowak’s team hadn’t earned four points in those games. This time, Altidore scored just seven minutes after coming on, redirecting a screaming cross by defender Michael Orozco (who was impressive in defense and getting forward in this game). Both Altidore and Nowak maintain that Altidore’s substitute role is a tactical choice, but the Villarreal striker did admit to me that his injured left ankle (which he hurt in a collison with Juan Pablo Ángel in a New York Red Bulls practice) is affecting him more than most people realize.

“It’s still bothering me,” Altidore said. “I get it looked at every day, just trying to get it better and better, but it seems to be something that when I get back to my club maybe I need to have someone else look at it.”

  21. Chuck says:

    Benny to Denmark???

    From danish site http://www.bold.dk
“Derby Countys Benny Feilhaber can be the new midfielder that AGF has promised for a long time, writes the website sporten.dk

AGF has admitted that at least one midfielder was on the way to the club ande sporten.dk claims to know, that the player i Derbys American Benny F. who is the Aarhus based clubs next buy.

Feilhaber tranfered from HSV to Derby but only played 10 games and is looking out for more firstteam action.

The 23 year is currently with the US olympic team in Red-China. He has played 16 times for the national team and scored twice.

Bonus Info: In AGF he would be teammate with another American, right winger Jeremiah White.

  22. Max Zeger says:

I’m making a call to a reliable source tonight and we’ll see what he has to say.

  23. Chuck says:

I saw where Gooch is not featured in today’s Liege vs. Liverpool Champions league match after having scored 2 goals this past weekend. It is purely speculation but Gooch may be on his way to a new club, possibly one that is in European competition so he has stayed out of this match to maintain his European eligibilty if he switches teams.

  24. Chuck says:

Scratch that…Just he’s suspended for this leg (surprise surprise)

  25. Chuck says:

On Thursday, U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley is expected to announce his roster for the Wednesday, August 20 World Cup Qualifier against Guatemala at Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The match, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Galavision, will be the first of two straight road contests for the U.S. who begin the semifinal round of World Cup qualifying.

  26. Chuck says:

What is Bradley smoking? He once again fails to call up three of the hottest strikers in the US pool in Cooper, Buddle and Davies. Don’t we already know what Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching both can do. This is awful:

    GOALKEEPERS:
    Tim Howard, Brad Guzan

    DEFENDERS:
Steve Cherundolo, Gooch, Carlos Bocanegra, Heath Pearce, Frankie Hejduk, Jay DeMerit

    MIDFIELDERS:
Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Sacha Kljestan, Pablo Mastroeni, Eddie Lewis

FORWARDS: Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Brian Ching, Clint Dempsey

  27. Chuck says:

    Steve Goff:

Just touched base with Benny Feilhaber’s agent, Lyle Yorks, who is in Aarhus (Denmark) with the USA Olympian.

“He had his medical and, if all of the final details are agreed, he will sign in the morning,” Yorks told the Insider.

Derby County, Feilhaber’s current club, will let him go on a free transfer. Feilhaber would join another American, Jeremiah White, at the ambitious Danish club.

  28. Chuck says:

    Washington Post:

Two sources tell me that Toronto FC midfielder Maurice Edu, a USA Olympic starter and an emerging national team candidate, is close to joining Glasgow Rangers. I am told the transfer fee would approach $5 million. It’s not a done deal, but the sides are apparently nearing an agreement.

  29. Chuck says:

According to his agent, the American Abroad could soon be leaving the relegated Ostseestädter for greener pastures.

“There’s a Dutch team that’s interested, and a German team,” Lyle Yorks told Soccer365. “We’re hoping to have this play itself out over the next five days. These are two great options.”

Though neither bidder’s name was revealed, Pearce has had plenty of documented interest from the Netherlands in the past and has more than once publicly expressed a desire to play in the Eredivisie.

The lead contender would appear to be FC Utrecht, who also made a run at the U.S. international before he joined Hansa. Ajax and FC Twente have made prior contact, but appear to be set at Pearce’s favored position, as well as on the left side of midfield.

The California native worked in 19 Bundesliga contests last season for Hansa, who start the new second flight season Monday at Duisburg.

  30. Chuck says:

Gooch: The American Abroad, who spent a half-season on loan with Newcastle in 2007, is being pursued by teams from the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A.

“There’s a lot of interest for him on the continent,” Lyle Yorks told Soccer365. “He’s got one year left on his contract and Standard say any deal has to be the right situation.”

“We’re looking at different opportunities and seeing what fits.”

Though no club names were mentioned at this time, Onyewu has received prior interest from each of the countries involved.

Both Lyon and Marseille have made contact in the past, while German risers FC Cologne recently were linked to the American. Italian side Lazio was at one time a suitor and Real Madrid made on offer for Onyewu before he joined Newcastle.

Furthermore, Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho had a move for the Washington D.C. native blocked while at Chelsea and is currently desperate for help with his injury-ravaged backline.

Standard, who will travel to Liverpool on the 27th to for the second leg of a scoreless Champions League second qualifying round tie, open their domestic title defense with a visit to Dender on Saturday.

  32. Max Zeger says:

it is a great article chuck, thanks.

  33. Chuck says:

Wonder what Heerenveen consider cheap: Heerenveen director Yme Kuiper insists the club will not let midfielder Michael Bradley leave on the cheap.

Bradley will return to the club on Friday after playing for the United States at the Olympics in Beijing and appearing for the senior team in Wednesday’s CONCACAF World Cup qualifier at Guatemala.

The 21-year-old is looking for a transfer and has refused to sign an extension to his current contract, which expires in June 2009.

But Kuiper told the club’s official website: “Bradley is allowed to leave us, but only for a realistic transfer fee.

“If that does not come along, it is better that he stays with us. Bradley is a good football player who can certainly be of value to us.”

  34. Max Zeger says:

yeah i saw that. This means that Bradley won’t go to Monaco. They’re offering the most but he won’t sign with them. I still can’t see him staying though. I’m waiting for a bit more info though. I should get something soon.

  35. Chuck says:

100% Freddy- Wow, they’re really making him the face of the organization:

    http://www.asm-fc.com/magazine.aspx

  36. Chuck says:

Expect some Michael Bradley movement in the coming days. Word has it Middlesbrough have or are about to bid, although UK reports have wildly overshot the amount (they claim £6 million when it’s actually closer to $6 million). My Spidey sense tells me Everton won’t be far behind with a better offer. Celtic also appear to have maintained interest and have just dealt box-to-box midfielder Evander Sno to Ajax.

Wynne agent Lyle Yorks was willing to concede no more than: “Marvell has had interest from Europe since the Olympics.”

Sacha Kljestan is currently being courted by at least one, if not two or three, teams on the continent. There may well be UK clubs involved as well, but I have no word of this. Again, Motzkin said “No comment at this time.”

  37. Chuck says:

Edu’s work permit has been granted. His £2.6m switch to Scotland will follow in the coming hours.

  38. Chuck says:

Italian speculation is pegging Catania manager Walter Zenga as the mystery Serie A admirer of Standard Liege defender Oguchi Onyewu

  39. Chuck says:

Rossi gives Jozy a warm welcome: OLYMPIC REINFORCEMENTS - Altidore and Rossi, who’ve scored in the Games, are presented as the solution in front of goal.

The Yankee connection. Giuseppe Rossi and Jozy Altidore are presented as the solution to the inaccuracy problem of the team that Manuel Pelligrini directs. Exactly as the Chilean has been shown, through the week, worried about the lack of scoring the Submarine have displayed in their pre-season encounters.

The manager has tested infinite different combinations for the attack, but none has finished on the nail (?). Llorente has fought for a great number of minutes, but hasn’t adapted 100% to the team, while Guille Franco hasn’t found his ideal partner. Since the Turkish Nihat was injured at the Euros, Pelligrini hasn’t found the magic goal-scoring formula.

The Beijing Olympics showed the way. Not in vain, Jozy Altidore–of the United States– and Giuseppe Rossi– with Italy– put on display their enormous quality, the Italian being one of the leading scorers of the tournament. Despite that, Rossi couldn’t avoid the rout of his team by Belgium in a quarterfinal match in which the Villarreal forward was able to score two goals, that yes, were insufficient because the Belgians scored three.

INSEPERABLE FRIENDS. Rossi, who lived his early years in the U.S., and Jozy Altidore, American by birth, form an inseperable duo both on and off the field. The ongoing language barrier has favored Altidore to be supported by Rossi at the moment of integrating into the group. “He’s my best friend. He’s helping me out a lot in the locker room and, besides, we have a lot in common,” Jozy commented.

It’s fitting to emphasize the ages of both players– Altidore is 19 and Rossi is 21– assure the high goal-scoring future of the team, keeping in mind the two forwards are both members of their national teams.

FUTBOL IN THE VEINS. Rossi has shown delight in the signing of the American. “We complement each other very well, he has some different characteristics than mine and I believe that we’re gonna give a good result together.”

The Italian began playing futbol in the United States thanks to his Italian-born father who was also his coach. A passion for the ball that he also shares with Altidore, who has played “soccer” practically since he began to walk due to his father, a native of Haiti, being an unconditional fan of the sport. The attacking pair can be lethal in the not so distant future. “I hope he stays for a long time because it’s going to be very good for us. It’s a great acquisition for Villarreal, they’ve verified it in full,” Rossi assures. Curiously, they both lived very close to each other as kids. “We lived about 10 minutes apart by car, in the same state. That is practically to the side (neighbors?), keeping in mind how large New York is,” the Italian recalls.

In turn, Altidore is confident in the connection between them that will bear a lot of fruit for Villarreal: “In Beijing, we knew each other, but in a few days we’ve become very friendly.” They are the Olympic reinforcements.

  40. Marlon says:
  41. Chuck says:

huh…that’s very interesting. Not sure it would be the best destination for him but any club that has made i known that they’d like to develop more American players at their club then I’m all for it.

Kljestan to Holland?? I like it a lot..
    http://www.goal.com/en-US/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=835371

  46. Chuck says:

Confirmed on the Villarreal website that Jozy has been called in for the next US qualifying match. In addition, Rossi is out 3 weeks with and ankle injury which pretty much makes Jozy their best available striker.

  47. Charley says:

If Edu plays against Celtic…what a first game in Europe! to go into one of the longest running, violent, and extremely intense rivalries in the history of the game as your first on the team. If I was him, I would wear two pair of underwear in that one.

And I really like Kljestan to holland as well. a good next step in his very promising career.

and good for Jozy as well. I hope everything keeps going this well for US players.

  48. Chuck says:

Jozy to be loaned? the rumor that Altidore is on his way to Valladolid on loan is true. According to Marca, Altidore has already said goodbye to the other Villarreal players at a team dinner. Surely, Pellegrini would not let him go unless he had another striker lined up, with the status of our strikeforce. That is, unless he is confident of Nihat returning in two weeks. But it seems incredibly risky for these first two games considering the effectiveness Franco and Llorente have shown.

  49. jay says:

when are we getting a forumn up and running?

  50. Charley says:

a forum would be good, Max. that way we could stop filling up your contact message thing. haha

  51. Chuck says:

Anyone see Gooch yesterday?? He pretty much shut down Torres. I would assume transfer speculation will Really be haeting up with only a couple days left in the window. Hopefully he’ll get out of Liege, but they did look really good and were very unlucky not to knock out Liverpool. Also, he looks crazy with the big beard and shaved head.

  52. Chuck says:

  56. Chuck says:

Chances of Edu making his debut against Celtic is slim since he just arrive in Glaskow today.

  57. Chuck says:

When the U.S. national team takes on Trinidad & Tobago at Toyota Park tonight, there will be at least one Chicago-based USA fan with a little more interest in the match than most.

    That fan is Bakary Soumare.

The Chicago Fire defender and native of Mali is enjoying a dream season in just his second year as a pro and his goal is to eventually be on the field for the U.S. national team rather than just in the stands.

“Right now I’m a Malian citizen but I’m hoping to get my (U.S.) citizenship,” Soumare told SBI last weekend. “As soon as I get my citizenship, if I get called by the U.S., it’s a no-brainer. That’s the route I’m going. I just have to wait and get my papers done.”

Soumare, who moved from Mali to Paris, France before settling in New York City, is having an MLS Best XI-caliber season and believes he is a year away from receiving his citizenship. Once he does, the 22-year-old plans on working his way into the U.S. national team mix.

“It’s one of my goals,” Soumare said of playing for the U.S. national team. “I’d be more than proud to represent the United States because I went to high school here and went to college here. It’s not like I just came here a year ago and am trying to play for the national team.

“I’m as much American as I am Malian.”

As for whether he would root for the U.S. national team on Wednesday night. Soumare didn’t hesitate to say yes.

“I live here, my adopted family is from this country and I went to school in this country,” Soumare said. “I owe a lot to this country.”

What do you think of Soumare’s chances of making the U.S. national team player? Could you see him challenging for a place in the back-line or in a defensive midfield role? Could he be a member of the 2010 World Cup team?
