Cardiff City Aggressively Courting Kenny Cooper
Is Bob Bradley the only man who has no interest in Kenny Cooper. We know about Rosenborg’s offer’s and now YS has learned that Cardiff City is interested in Cooper. The Bluebirds have launched a bid similar to Rosenborg’s and Cooper might prefer a move to England over Norway. Reports in the Welsh press have the bid at approximately $4 million and they also say that MLS has accepted the bid, they just have to agree to terms with Cooper. City’s needs however are urgent, and they want Cooper in their camp now which has made the situation more complicated and hectic.
The third party involved is MLS and they want Cooper to stay. Don Garber has offered Cooper a new contract that would significantly increase his salary, but Cooper seems keen to leave.
Will Cooper stay? It sounds unlikely to me. With a $4 million dollar offer, Cooper seems destined to leave, the question is when. Cardiff City has made it clear: they are not going to sit and wait for Cooper, they want him now. I think the ball is in Cooper’s court, he can choose to sign with Rosenborg, Cardiff City, or accept the new contract offer from MLS.
I think that Cooper is set to join Cardiff City and it would be a great place for him to go. He’s a step away from the Premier League, and if he does well, he could be joining a premier league team as early as this winter. The Championship is a great proving ground, and I’m excited to see what Cooper can do.
What do you think of Cardiff’s entrance into the race for Cooper? Where should he sign? All your thoughts go below.

Rosenborg wouldn’t be bad either. They’ll be playing in UEFA Cup and always seem to do well in big tournaments.

I think that Rosenborg wouldn’t be bad but, I think for Cooper, he’s much rather move to England. Rosenborg is a better team so it will be easier to get playing time immediately at Cardiff.

well, this will be the end of FCD’s season, but I’d rather see him go to Cardiff than Rosenborg. He just netted two goals and an assist tonight against LA, trouncing them. Sad day for dallas fans if he leaves.

from what I’m hearing, he’ll be in camp for Cardiff next week. it’s sad to see him go, but money and European football is hard to resist.

I’m a FC Dallas season ticket holder and it’s really sucks that he’s leaving. He went to school in Dallas and has a great fan base here. I think the team has been searching for new strikers for several weeks in South America. Our midfield is the strongest part of our team so still hope we can make the playoffs.

Hey saw this, thought it would shed some more light on the situation. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/football-news/2008/07/28/cardiff-city-target-cooper-as-a-major-priority-91466-21415686/

Charley, great work, a bunch of articles on that website on Kenny Cooper. It sounds like Cardiff City is gushing to have Cooper on their team at $4million dollar transfer fee, the league is not going to pass this up.
Why doesn’t Bob Bradley play him. He’s superior to Brian Ching. He’s better than Eddie Johnson at scoring goals. He’s huge 6’3″, and powerful and AGGRESSIVE!He’s the next, but bigger with stronger more accurate leg Brian McBride!

Bradley played him a couple games last year. then he broke his leg and was out for a long time. That is why he wasn’t a major player last year in the MLS. In his time with the USMNT, he scored one goal in two games. I think he will definitely be called up again especially with all the attention he is getting now.
What I don’t get is how FCD doesn’t get any say in whether they can release Cooper or not. I understand it should go through the league, but the team should have some say in whether they trade away their best player or not.
July 28th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Correct. Teams should get a say. However, I understand the point of the league, they are trying to build a league, not just a bunch of individual teams. This is one of the arguements against, the 1st Division of the USL promotion/relegation tie-in. I think most people agree that a certain amount of parity is good. I mean, aren’t we getting tired of the Revolution already.

Well, On many Norwegian sites it says that Cooper would prefer a move to Norway and Rosenborg because of the chance to play in The Uefa Cup. It is the “advicer” for Rosenborg BK in these ongoing negotations, Jan Schiefloe who says this about Kenny’s wishes…
One other thing is that Kenny would like to show Rosenborg the kind of respect and interest back, like they have had for him since the last part of June…

sorry joachim, he’s flying to Wales as we speak. I don’t think he much fancied a move to Norway because he wasn’t very interested in it when it came about. Cardiff has been behind the scenes for a while now, but we just heard about it recently.

Max Zeger: Hmm…Are you sure that Kenny is on his way to Wales and not Norway? Sorry but I have heard so many different romours today…
And if it is true that he is on his way to Wales. Will he also go on a visit to Norway? Like it has been said..

from what my sources say, he’s going to wales to sign a contract and he will immediately join Cardiff. I also hear that since Cardiff bid roughly $1million more than rosenborg, Cardiff’s bid was the only one accepted.

But on 3rddegree.net it says that Cooper has agreed on a contract with Rosenborg…It says that he rejected an offer from Cardiff…
I have heard that 3rd degree is a relieable source.

I guess we’ll see.

Would be very surprised if Cooper picks Cardiff over Rosenborg. While Cardiff appear to be a dead end for most players, Rosenborg offers European football and a fast track to top league clubs in England and Europe. Most recent graduates from Rosenborg: Fredrik Stoor (Fulham), Daniel Braaten (Bolton, Toulouse), John Carew (Roma, Valencia, Lyon, Aston Villa), Yssouf Kone, Lars Hirschfeld, Mickey Dorsin (all to Cluj, Champions League-participant 2008), the list goes on..

Hi guys.
I can say on behalf of all Rosenborg Fans that Mr.Cooper is the Striker off our dreams. on our forum ppl are going crazy waiting for a break in this case. We all want Cooper, and if he is as good as i think he is, playing for uss will get him to a big club in the comming years. As for all strikers i know We have been trailing, Cooper is my definetive favoritte! can’t say we had a player that good since Carew was playing for us. Also i think the Norwegian Top fivision needs a player like Cooper to show the way for all promising youngsters! Not to many Big profiles left since they play well and get sold to bigger clubs, but i hope we sign Kevin and he signs a 12 Year contract;)

Well, now I am seeing that Kenny said that he would rather join Rosenburg than Cardiff. Who Knows what is going to happen. The Cardiff boys think that they have for sure lost Cooper to Rosenburg.
July 29th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I think mls is going to let him choose. Maybe it’s rosenborg, maybe it’s cardiff. We’ll see.
July 29th, 2008 at 11:49 am
In reading the 33rd degree article…I have this question: Why not keep Cooper, if possible to the end of the season, now that he is on European teams radar and his value will only go up…I mean, look at the buzz that this has created…
July 29th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
yeah, MLS is offering around DP money to stay but I think he just wants to go to Europe. I think Dallas would be stupid not to keep him and sell him in the winter, but it’s ultimately Cooper’s decision. If he wants to leave, he can because Cardiff’s offer has been accepted and I believe that an offer from rosenborg has too.
