Brian Mcbride Not Joining MLS in 2008

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past six weeks, you’ll know that Brian Mcbride not only wants to come back to MLS, he wants to go specifically to Chicago.  Easy right, no, Toronto owns the rights to Mcbride and they’re asking a steep price for it.  Names that have been mentioned have been Justin Mapp, Chris Rolfe, and Chad Barret.

Chicago doesn’t want to break up their young group of players and I can’t blame them.  Mcbride is a good player, but he is near the end of his career and you don’t want to give away young talent for him.  Mcbride has his mind set on Chicago and if Toronto and the Fire can’t come to a deal, Mcbride is prepared to wait out the season.  The allocation order changes after the season and then Chicago wouldn’t have to negotiate with Toronto who’s demands are too steep.

Mcbride can now focus on the olympics exclusively instead of also worrying about club soccer.

What do you think of Mcbride waiting until next year to join MLS?  Is this a good move or no?  Your thoughts below.
