Benny Feilhaber Leaves Derby County

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 12:03 pm

Imagine going from scoring the winning goal in your region’s championship, then landing a huge contract with a premiership team, then having such a bad season, the team releases you.  That’s Benny Feilhaber.  Derby County have released Feilhaber along with five others as they’re set to make a renewed attempt at the Premier League.  Feilhaber’s agent is looking in Europe for work, and Feilhaber does have some options.  Maccabi Tel Aviv, of the Israeli first division had interest in Feilhaber this last January, and could renew interest in Feilhaber again this summer.

Another option is returning to Hamburg on a free transfer, although, he most likely wouldn’t see any playing time.

Whatever the outcome, Feilhaber will get a chance to remake his career at a new club and hopefully, get back in the National Team scene.

Where do you think Feilhaber will end up?  Are you happy to see him leave Derby County?  Your thoughts below.

What good is it playing with the Derby City Reserve team anyway? He is a
bit of a whiner (that’s what Bob Bradley said) anyway. Seriously, I liked
Benny in the Gold Cup games, but it’s like he went to Derby and fell of
the soccer planet. He has not been impressive on the USMNT since…

lets hope he has a good Olympic tournament. The kid can play.

Why not come home to MLS, where he is assured to see playing time? It’s obvious that this kid is not ready for Europe, but definitely has some talent that could grow if he were in a starting lineup over here day-in and day-out.

I think at some point, he just has to swallow his pride and do what is best, even if he looks like a chump for doing it. Look at Freddy Adu, he just tried the same thing after riding the bench at Benfica, but MLS clubs looked at him and took a pass.

totally agreed TJ, if it’s a place where he can get playing time, he needs to go there. He’s obviously going to get none for Hamburg if he goes back and every MLS team would love to have him. He’s got talent, but he just needs a place where he can grow that talent and MLS seems like a good place for that.
