Arturo Alvarez Leaves for San Jose: Is FC Dallas Clearing House?

Tag: UncategorizedMax Zeger @ 6:37 am

Schellas Hyndman obviously is an opinionated guy because he’s unloaded three of his most dynamic players.  Arturo Alvarez has officially been traded to San Jose according to Dallas’ website.  Here’s what they said.

FC Dallas today completed a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, acquiring allocation money and San Jose’s first-round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft (originally held by Houston) in exchange for forward-midfielder Arturo Alvarez. San Jose had obtained Houston’s natural first-round pick in the ‘09 draft in exchange for forward Kei Kamara last week.

With Kenny Cooper and Juan Toja also about to jump ship, the question has to be asked; is Schellas Hyndman serious about the playoffs?
FC Dallas is currently occupying a playoff spot, and losing three players responsible for approximately 75% of the offense seems a bit irresponsible.  Hyndman is close to bringing in Ariel Ortega, but it doesn’t seem like enough.  Abe Thompson or Dominic Oduro would presumably partner with Ortega, but that partnership doesn’t bring the same punch that an Ortega-Cooper one would.

Schellas Hyndman will find trouble replacing Alvarez, not to mention Toja.  Both were speedy, talented, and young, all attributes that will be tough to replace mid-season.  The upside of selling Toja, Cooper, and Alvarez is that they will receive plenty of money to re-invest, but that re-investing might not be felt until next year.

Dallas seems to have given up this year, even though they are in a good position to push for the playoffs.  Schellas Hyndman will have to bring in some new players fast if Dallas are to continue their push for the playoffs.

What do you think of Dallas’ house cleaning?  Will they suffer because of it?  Your thoughts below.

What are we doing?!? Why get rid of everything offensive without any plan for the immediate future. The only thing I see is that Hyndman doesn’t think that we can win the Cup with the players we have, and he thinks that minor adjustments are not going to do it. He thinks that the team dynamic is not even close to what it takes to win major cups. I don’t know if I agree with him, but i guess I have to believe in him. I don’t know who we are going to replace them. We have some pretty good backups, like Brek Shea and Avila, but they are too young and inexperienced. Micheal Dello Russo is good too, but even Hyndman said he is to young. I don’t konw how I feel about this. I guess this year is turning into a rebuilding year.

Just found this. We picked up Bruno Guarda from the Rapids. He is a Brazilian player who played under Hyndman at SMU. Don’t know much about him, but here is the story.

i did some research on him and he looks like a decent player. Unfortunately, he’s no Juan Toja or Arturo Alvarez and i’m not even sure if he’s ready to step into the starting lineup. I can’t believe that Hyndman is doing this. He’s in good position for the playoffs and he is selling his 3 most dynamic players. Hopefully he has more people lined up that we just don’t know about.

  4. Charley says:

yeah, i heard that Guarda will go into the development league. I hope he does too.

Why is FC Dallas, getting rid of TWO All-stars and their next best player? What else is going on at FC Dallas? any ideas?

they’re on track to bring in one quality player but beyond that, there’s nothing i’ve heard about. This seems absolutely crazy and unless they’ve given up on the season, this is ludicrous. They’re in a playoff spot, this is stupid.

Here is another transfer rumor. Don’t know how credible it is, but it is a rumor. Assan Jatta, a Gambian national team striker is having a trial with FCD. It says that he has had a lot of injuries.

I don’t believe much of what mls rumors says. Anyway, I’d say about one out of ten trialists get signed so it’s possible but unlikely

Dallas just thrashed the Galaxy with the three players we are talking about leaving…what more could Hyndman want? Dallas is about to take a turn for the worst I fear

new news about cooper though. Dallas has finally come to their senses.
