2009 MLS All Star Game Goes to Salt Lake

The MLS All Star Game epitomizes corporate control of Major League Soccer.  It’s a useless mid-season corporate extravaganza used to get some world wide publicity.  This year’s version will be played in Toronto against West Ham United, but in the run up to the game, it is also tradition to announce the next All Star game’s location.  The winner is… as you might have guessed from the title, Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City is opening a new stadium just south of the city.  It is slated to open on October 9th on MLS Primetime Thursday.  The 20,000 seat stadium is part of a rejuvenation project for the area.  Here are some photos, it is a beautiful stadium and it should be a great venue for next year’s All Star game (even though it is a worthless match).  The Photos are after the jump.
